Public Service Commission, is a central agency of India, which is authorized to
conduct various examinations like Civil Services Examination, Engineering
Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, National Defence
Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination and Combined Medical Services
Examination.
The notifications from UPSC come
all the year around for conduct of the examinations mentioned above and can be

The online application forms are
available on the site and some of the exams also require two stage
registrations because of the payment procedures.
The Union Public Service Commission consists
of a Chairman and ten Members to conduct its process. The terms and conditions
of service of Chairman and all the Members are governed by Union Public Service
Commission (Members) Regulations, 1969. All the members of the commission are
appointed by the President of India.
The members of the Commission consists of
some of the Civil Servants Having a minimum of ten years experience either in
Central or State service.
The Commission also has a Secretariat which
is headed by a Secretary having Additional Secretaries, a number of Joint
Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries and other supporting staff.
U.P.S.C. is also among the few institutions
of the country which function with both autonomy and freedom along with the
country’s higher judiciary and lately Election Commission.
The Recruitment Rules of all Group ‘A’ and
Group ‘B" posts in various Ministries/Departments of Government of India
are required to be framed in Consultation with the Commission and this
certainly mark the importance of UPSC in the country.
